Our university’s Koçarlı Vocational School has achieved a significant success in the field of forage crops. Within the scope of the TAGEM-supported project titled “Breeding of Perennial Warm-Season Forage Grasses”, led by Dr. Feyza Döndü Bilgin, faculty member of the Department of Crop and Animal Production, and with Özkan Bilgin, Acting Head of the Health, Culture and Sports Department, serving as the technical researcher, a new variety of Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana) has been developed and registered.
Following detailed evaluations conducted by the Ankara Seed Registration and Certification Directorate, the developed variety was registered under the name “GÜNDEL” as Türkiye’s first domestic and national C4 forage grass.
This achievement not only contributes to Türkiye’s agricultural sustainability goals, but also represents a strategic step in promoting forage crop breeding and local seed production.
We congratulate the academic and technical team who contributed to this project and wish them continued success.
