The groundbreaking ceremony of the Adnan Menderes Museum which will present slices of the life of Adnan Menderes, our “Martyr of Democracy” from whom our university gains its name, took place on March 11, 2019.

Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, Aydın Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Aydın Members of Parliament Mustafa Savaş, Bekir Kuvvet Erim, Metin Yavuz ve Rıza Posacı, Chief Prosecutor of the Republic  Kasım Tüten, Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Selçuk Aldemir, wife of the late Aydın Menderes Ümran Menderes, Delegation of Aydın and a large number of invitees attended the ceremony.

The groundbreaking ceremony of Adnan Menderes Museum, the construction of which started in 1961, and could not be built for various reasons, took place with active participation. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu said “From the date they took the late Adnan Menderes away from us, they began to erase all traces of him. They erased their images and photos from the archives. They didn't even allow visits to his tomb for years which put aside dreams of opening his museum. They both executed a prime minister who had served this country for 10 years and buried him on an island that no one had ever visited.” Süleyman Soylu emphasized that the museum will be both modest and great and thanked all the stakeholders of the project.

Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Selçuk Aldemir, in his speech, said that Aydın Adnan Menderes University will best represent our “Martyr of Democracy”, Adnan Menderes, in the academic sense regionally and nationally. Prof. Dr. Osman Selçuk Aldemir said “Although many books have been written, the phenomenon of Adnan Menderes has not yet been revealed in all its dimensions. Hereafter, we will examine the political and social personality of the lateAdnan Menderes, his contributions to our democracy, and his pioneering identity for the domination of national will, from a broader academic perspective. Additionally, Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Selçuk Aldemir and Ümran Menderes had a conversation with the citizens in the village coffeehouse.
