Support from TUBITAK for the Faculty of Science’s Project

The Project where Lecturer Research Assist. Dr. Fatma Bursalı of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science serves as the coordinator; Prof. Dr. Fatih M. Şimşek as the advisor; Assist. Prof. Dr. Şafak Kalındamar from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Ordu University and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustapha Touray from the Department of Biology of ADU as researchers, was entitled to receive support within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Module.

Making a statement about the study numbered KBAG-124Z418 titled "Research on Asaia Bacteria Associated with the Malaria Vector Anopheles sacharovi (Diptera: Culicidae) Species", the project team said, "In recent years, an alternative strategy called paratransgenesis, which means obtaining genetically differentiated mosquito symbionts with genetic engineering methods, has been developed and used in malaria control. Within the scope of the study, the detection of Asaia bacteria, one of the paratransgenic candidates using the microbiota of the Anopheles sacharovi species, which is the most important vector of malaria in our country, and making whole genome DNA sequencing will reveal important results regarding the discovery of natural products in the control of vectors and vector-borne diseases, as well as the potential of these bacteria in biological control."
