Support from TÜBİTAK for Our Academician's Project
The project titled “Determining the Risk of Pesticide Exposure on Honeybees in Agricultural Ecosystems and Developing Integrated Pest Management Strategies,” prepared by the leadership, Prof. Dr. Cafer Turgut, a faculty member at our university’s Faculty of Agriculture, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 2515 COST Project Support Program.
The project, prepared based on the important role of honey bees in the sustainability of agricultural ecosystems and the protection of biodiversity, aims to reveal the pesticide exposure of honey bees in different agricultural ecosystems and the related ecotoxicological risks in real field conditions.
Within the scope of the project, an innovative risk decision-support model will be developed to enable the early prediction of pesticide-related risks to colonies and to ensure that decisions regarding pesticide use are made based on scientific data. The goal is for the model to be adaptable to different agricultural production systems and to contribute to sustainable agricultural production.
The project is led by Prof. Dr. Cafer Turgut, a faculty member at ADU Faculty of Agriculture , with the following researchers: Dr. Melis Yalçın- Assistant Professor at ADU Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Taylan Doğaroğlu- Lecturer at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University; Mustafa Kösoğlu- Specialist at the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute; Dr. Volkan Mehmet Çınar- Assistant Specialist at the General Directorate of Food and Control; Dr. Nalan Turgut from Agroquatro Inc.; Assistant Professor Aslı Atasoy Aydın and Prof. Dr. Nebile Dağlıoğlu, from Ankara University; and Prof. Dr. Aykut Güvensen from Ege University.
The scientific data obtained as a result of the project, which will be carried out with an interdisciplinary approach, is expected to contribute to the evaluation of the possible effects of pesticide use on honeybees in agricultural areas, deceleration of colony risks and the development of integrated pest management strategies.
