As part of the First Lego League Challenge Ocean-Themed Project, students from Nahit Menteşe Middle School, accompanied by their team coach Cevat Ayna, visited the Microbiology Laboratory of our University's Biology Department to support their project on the environmental impacts of plastics and microplastics affecting marine ecosystems.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Hacı Halil Bıyık and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esin Poyrazoğlu Çoban, students had the opportunity to examine microplastic structures previously studied within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1001 and KUTUP Projects.
Additionally, Dr. Senem Köse provided the project team with detailed information about the sources, damages, and biological degradation of microplastics.
