The "Aegean Sea Earthquakes Coordination Meeting" was held on February 12, 2025, at the DSI 21st Regional Directorate Meeting Hall, under the chairmanship of Aydin Governor Yakup Canbolat. The meeting was attended by our University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Bulent Kent, along with senior officials from relevant institutions and academicians.
During the meeting, assessments were made regarding the ongoing earthquake swarm near Santorini Island and its surroundings, which began on January 28, 2025. Discussions focused on the potential impacts of the earthquakes, current disaster modeling studies, and risk assessments. Additionally, precautionary measures, planned fieldwork, and disaster management strategies were reviewed.
The importance of closely monitoring developments related to the earthquake swarm was emphasized. Participants highlighted the necessity of cooperation and coordination to implement effective preparedness and response measures for future disasters.
