Prof. Dr. Deniz Çoban, a faculty member of the Department of Aquaculture Engineering at the Faculty of Agriculture of our University, has been elected as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ) of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
As part of this prestigious role, Prof. Dr. Deniz Çoban participated as one of the two official delegates representing Türkiye at the committee meeting held on July 15–16, 2025, at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
The meeting brought together representatives from 14 countries, including EU member states and other Mediterranean coastal nations, to discuss regional developments and collaboration opportunities in the field of aquaculture. Key topics included future projections for aquaculture in Mediterranean countries, ongoing cultivation practices, and the impact of climate change on the sector. Türkiye’s strategic role and contributions to these efforts were also highlighted.
