“Fish Welfare Training”, which is a first in Türkiye and prepared by Future For Fish program, was organized in Aydın with Prof. Dr. Deniz Çoban, academic advisor of our University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries Engineering.
This training, which brought together aquaculture engineering students from different faculties of Türkiye, aimed to raise awareness in the sector and train students as future leaders in fish welfare.
With both theoretical and practical content, the training was an important step towards a transformation in the aquaculture sector that prioritizes fish welfare. 25 students from 7 different universities, carefully selected among the applicants from across Türkiye, received a comprehensive training on fish welfare, ethical production practices and the use of electric harvesting system.
The training program consisted of presentations by Future For Fish Academic Advisor Prof. Dr. Deniz Çoban and Future For Fish Program Manager Deniz Kıraç Uncu, as well as theoretical sessions given by important names of the sector such as Prof. Dr. Aslı Cadun Yünlü, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yıldırım and Abalıoğlu A.Ş Production Director Tuna Yılgörmüş. In addition, representatives of leading companies in the sector such as Kılıç Hatchery Director Cengiz Önder, Sürsan Production Manager Ertuğrul Mutlu, Abalıoğlu Production Director Tuna Yılgörmüş, Noordzee Didim Regional Responsible Halil Kaygısız and Hasan Tahsin Saylak from AYSUBİR also attended the program. In this way, students had the opportunity to meet with sector representatives and get direct information about the sector.
On the second day of the training, students staying at the guesthouse of our University visited two different hatcheries with the bus of the institution and examined the practices and innovative methods related to fish welfare on site.
