The "Fig Waste Into Green Ultra-Resilient Eco-Coatings (FIGURE)" project, in which our university is a partner, has been deemed eligible for support as a multi-partner international project under the agri-food value chain theme within the scope of the EU Horizon Europe PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) Program.
The FIGURE project, led on behalf of our university by Prof. Dr. Hilal Şahin Nadeem, a faculty member of the Department of Food Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, also includes Prof. Dr. Hacı Halil Bıyık and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esin Poyrazoğlu from the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, as well as Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Özgün Güzdemir and Dr. Dilara Konuk Takma from the Department of Food Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, serving as researchers.
The FIGURE project, coordinated by Uşak University (Türkiye), is supported by Aydın Adnan Menderes University, the Fig Research Institute, and İzmir Institute of Technology from Türkiye. Internationally, the project is backed by the University of Padova (Italy), Leibniz University Hannover (Germany), and the Agricultural Research Center (Egypt). The project, with a total duration of three years, will involve 30 researchers, excluding graduate students, and has been allocated a total budget of approximately €700,000.
Focusing on figs, one of the most valuable agricultural products in both domestic and international markets, the FIGURE project aims to enhance the safety and quality of fresh and dried fig products, minimize post-harvest losses, and innovate production by repurposing waste materials.
We congratulate our esteemed academics and the project team and wish them continued success in their research.
