Faculty of Education Makes Us Proud with Their TÜBİTAK Projects

Faculty members from our university's Faculty of Education, Mathematics and Science Education Department, have made us proud with their TÜBİTAK projects under the 4004-Nature Education and Science Schools program of the Science and Society Programs. Three projects led and researched by our faculty members have been awarded support.

On May 2, 2024, during a live broadcast by TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, the projects to be supported in 2024 were announced from among 630 applications across Turkey. The supported projects include:

  • The "Eco-Mathematics-II for Middle School Students" (EKO-MAT) project, led by Dr. Öğr. Member Deniz Özen Ünal of the Mathematics Education Department.
  • The "Mathematical Exploration in Nature for Gifted Students: Differentiated Education-2," led by Mathematics Teacher Bil. Uzm. Necati Onay from Söke Science and Art Center.
  • The "Green Calculations in Climate Change" project, led by Mathematics Teacher Asiye Zeybek from the Koçarlı Provincial Directorate of National Education R&D Unit. These projects were among the three selected from 17 applications submitted from Aydın.

The project team includes Dr. Öğr. Member Deniz Özen Ünal (Leader), Prof. Dr. Ersen Yazıcı (Expert), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Hiğde (Expert), Dr. Öğr. Member Serhan Ulusan (Expert), Dr. Öğr. Member Hediye Can (Expert), Dr. Öğr. Member Nurtaç Üstündağ Kocakuşak (Expert), and Research Assistant İrem Coşkun (Guide).

The first "Eco-Mathematics for Middle School Students" project was conducted in 2022, focusing on developing environmental awareness and seeking solutions to environmental problems through mathematics. It included a seven-day science school with lessons and workshops for students in disadvantaged regions in Aydın. This project was awarded the Special Environmental Service Award by the Mediterranean University Environmental Problems Research and Application Center in 2023.

 

Prof. Dr. Ersen Yazıcı, Director of the ADUSTEM Research Center where the project team conducts their work, thanked all researchers, administrators, and teachers involved in the writing and planning of these three projects. He announced that ADUSTEM Research Center will continue its activities with new projects targeting teachers, teacher candidates, and students of all grade levels throughout Aydın province in 2024.
