Res. Assist. Ayşe Kübra Söyler, PhD from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, conducted a comprehensive training and observation program on internationally recognized methods for the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders at Klinikum Osnabrück Hospital in Osnabrück, Germany.
Led by Prof. Dr. Rainer Dziewas, President of the European Dysphagia Association, the program closely examined the applications and reporting processes of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Swallowing Evaluation (FEES) and Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), which are considered the gold standard in the assessment of swallowing disorders. In addition, swallowing rehabilitation practices were observed in clinics treating intensive care, stroke, and Parkinson's patients.
During the visit, opportunities for academic cooperation between the two institutions were discussed, and it was stated that the knowledge and experience gained would contribute significantly to the evaluation of swallowing disorders and the development of treatment processes at our University in accordance with international standards.
