The Academic Board Meeting of Our University's Faculty of Agriculture was held on February 25, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Durdu Conference Hall of the Faculty of Agriculture.
The meeting was attended by our University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Bülent Kent, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Özarslan, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sürmen, Vice Deans Prof. Dr. Gürhan Keleş and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çınar, Acting Secretary-General Ramazan Bilir, and academic staff.
In his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Kent emphasized the leading role of the Faculty of Agriculture in research, technology development, and education activities, stating:
"Our Faculty of Agriculture is at the forefront of research, technology development, and educational activities. A significant transformation in agricultural technology is occurring worldwide. Traditional production processes, which began with Agriculture 1.0, are now being replaced by robotics and AI-based digital integrated operating systems. In the future, I believe we will encounter high-yield, low-resource, web-based smart farms more frequently. Therefore, we must reconsider traditional agricultural practices. By combining the possibilities offered by production technologies with innovative agricultural products, our university and country can gain significant advantages and opportunities. I fully trust that our academics can guide this transformation."
Highlighting the support provided to the Faculty of Agriculture through projects, Prof. Dr. Kent noted:
"Since assuming leadership, we have provided a total of 6 million 323 thousand TL in support for 52 projects in 2023 and 2024. The BAP infrastructure project alone contributed 3.5 million TL to strengthen the faculty’s infrastructure, particularly in livestock. This project included investments such as:
- A state-of-the-art feed mixing machine
- A 12-ton trailer
- A 20-ton water tank
- A manure separator
- The renewal of manure scrapers in the dairy unit
- A 24-head goat milking unit
- Construction of shelters and roads for sheep farming.
The project is ongoing. Additionally, we are aware of the faculty's water and drinking water issues. To solve this, we invested over 500 thousand TL to replace artesian pumps, electronic components, water tanks, and motors. Another critical step is the commissioning of a softening system to reduce water hardness. For this, we will allocate approximately 750 thousand TL from the Construction Works Department's budget to permanently resolve this issue. I want to emphasize that our support for improving the faculty's irrigation and greenhouse infrastructure will continue."
During the meeting, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sürmen presented an informative briefing about the faculty’s performance regarding publications, projects, events, education, and accreditation. Discussions were also held with the academic staff regarding the goals, needs, and solutions for the 2024-2025 Spring Academic Semester.
The meeting continued with the presentation of success certificates to academics who ranked in the 2024 Academic Incentive Awards and the conferral of academic promotion robes.
The session concluded with wishes for a healthy and successful academic term.
