Our university athletes Pınar Akyol and Rabiye Çiçek achieved great success at the European Throwing Winter Championships held in South Cyprus on March 15–16, 2025, bringing home the titles of European Champion and European Third Place. With their outstanding performances, Pınar Akyol and Rabiye Çiçek have earned the right to represent our University at the 2025 World University Championship.
Our student Pınar Akyol became the European Champion in the senior shot put category with a throw of 16.15 meters, adding another victory to her career and proving herself as the best in Europe.
Our student Rabiye Çiçek, on the other hand, achieved European Third Place in the javelin throw U23 category with a throw of 52.41 meters, earning a bronze medal. Despite her young age, this result marks a significant achievement and offers great hope for future medals.
Our University Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Kent congratulated the athletes, saying:
“This tremendous success achieved in Europe has made us proud. We congratulate our athletes and wish them continued success in the World Championship. Our Faculty of Sports Sciences continues to make us proud in every competition they attend. I also congratulate all our faculty members who contributed to this success.”
University Athletics Team Coach Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Güreş expressed his satisfaction with the athletes’ performance:
