Sustainability Initiatives are Reflected in International Rankings

In the UI GreenMetric rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated across various categories, including environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education. ADU’s rise in the rankings was driven by initiatives focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, waste management, education, and campus practices, as well as data monitoring and improvement efforts in these areas.

To ensure that sustainability initiatives at the university are carried out with an institutional approach, efforts are being made to develop zero-waste practices, organize educational programs and events aimed at raising environmental awareness, promote the efficient use of resources, and foster a sustainable campus culture. As part of these efforts, the Aydın Leg of the Turkey Zero Waste, Environment, and Climate Change Workshop Series—hosted by ADU in September 2026—was also among our university’s activities in the field of sustainability. The workshop, which was held with the participation of public institutions, local governments, academics, and relevant stakeholders, addressed zero waste, the efficient use of resources, the reduction of waste, and sustainable environmental policies.

The goal is to continue developing ADU’s sustainability initiatives in the coming period through education, research, campus initiatives, and community engagement.
