A New Species of the Helicobacter Genus Discovered

In the study conducted by Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Olgun, Prof. Dr. Nazan Üzüm and Prof. Dr. Aziz Avcı, members of the Department of Zoology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science of our University, a new species belonging to the genus Helicobacter, which was identified to live in the intestines of lizards named Apathya cappadocica (Kayseri Lizard) and Ophisops elegans (Field Lizard), was found.

The relevant species was named Helicobacter cappadocius, bringing the number of species of this genus worldwide to 85.
